Software CEA sees to Engineering Savings on The RTS Teryoshkovo Power Project

By Anonymous

January 9 2004--Founded in 1922, Mosenergoproekt is a multi-purpose institute, which develops the designs for new construction, reconstruction and technological re-equipment of power stations, heat supply networks, indoor and outdoor substations, cable and aerial transmission lines, communication and telemetry systems, as well as future development schemes for heat and power supply systems for Moscow city and other regions of Russia.

For the purpose of introduction of the advanced world technology developments, Mosenergoproekt has extended its international cooperation with the leading foreign firms. Among them FICHTNER (Germany), ENEL (Italy), KEMA (The Netherlands), ABB (Finland), HALDOR TOPSOE (Denmark), NOKIA (Finland), SIEMENS (Germany), ALFA-LAVAL (Sweden) and others.

During the last years the Institute’s activities are aimed at introducing gas turbine and steam-gas technology as the most efficient and ecologically safe one.

To increase labor productivity, to provide multi-visional design approach, to improve documentation quality, to reduce design process periods and to use wide unification and typification, provision is made in Mosenergoproekt since 2001 within the frames CAD system development for introduction of a complex system of computer-aided 3D design of power facilities.

In Mosenergoproekt is used an easy CAD solution based on plant design system Plant-4D, Consistent Software solutions and AutoDesk technologies which offers a complete set of software tools for design and modeling power plants.

RTS “Teryoshkovo with GTU” (regional power plant with gas turbine) - is the first project, for which a 3D computer-aided design system was used. This power plant with gas turbine, is located in Solntsevo region of Moscow city and is formed from 6 blocks with total dimension in plan equal to 271.5 x 30 meters.

Especially for Mosenergoproekt needs has been developed an extensive library of piping and equipment components for power plant design. The unification and typification of used details in the projects increases the productivity of designers. For the purpose of decreasing the errors on pipe tracing and collisions of pipe systems is used the clashing module developed by CEA Technology, which can detect, review and manage the component interferences in 3D models.

The entire project documents like schematics, drawings and bill of materials. Report forms are produced automatically based on the model. This approach improves the quality, because the technical documentation is produced consistently and correctly.

Aloe Vera - No Wonder They Call It The 'Miracle Plant'

By Kay Blackiston

Aloe Vera is a member of the Lily family. It is a succulent that looks a lot like a cactus and is known by various names such as the burnt plant, the miracle plant, the natural healer and the medicine plant. Although there are more than two hundred species of Aloe Vera, only a few have medicinal properties, and of these Aloe Vera Barbadensis is the most beneficial.

The Aloe Vera plant reaches maturity at about four years of age. The outer leaf is smooth and rubbery and inside is the gel and sap which is harvested, preserved and bottled to give either a juice or when combined with other ingredients creams, lotions and gels. About 96% of the plant is water. The rest is made up of minerals such as magnesium, zinc, copper, chromium and the antioxidant selenium, vitamins including the antioxidants C, E and beta carotene, 20 of the 22 amino acids required by the body including 7 of the 8 that cannot be manufactured by the body, sugars, enzymes and fatty acids. The combination of these elements has a more powerful effect together than they would individually. This is because each enhances the effect of the other, an occurrence that is known as synergism.

Aloe Vera works in two different areas; by promoting healing or preventing injury to the epithelial tissues (the skin, the lining of the gut, the bronchial tubes, etc) and by balancing the immune system when its antioxidants fight the free radicals produced by our metabolism and pollutants in the environment.

When taken internally, Aloe Vera is soothing to digestive tract irritations, such as colitis and peptic ulcers. The anti-inflammatory fatty acids are also helpful for the stomach, small intestine and colon. It alkalises the digestive juices preventing overacidity – a common cause of indigestion. Amongst many other ailments that have been helped by Aloe Vera are diverticulitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, constipation and haemorrhoids. Conditions that are improved by balancing the immune system are arthritis, asthma, ME (post viral fatigue syndrome) and LE (lupus).

When applied to the skin Aloe Vera improves a large variety of skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, ulcers, burns, stings, acne, bites, scrapes, abrasions, scalp care, sore muscles, cold sores, bruises, sprains and frostbite to name but a few!

More recent studies show Aloe Vera can help prolong survival time and stimulate the immune system of cancer patients. This is partly by fighting free radicals with its antioxidant properties and also by stimulating the white blood cells causing the release of immune-activating and anticancer substances such as interferons, interleukins and tumour necrosis factor. These properties of Aloe Vera have also made it an effective part of a nutrition support program for HIV patients; leading to fewer occurrences of infections such as thrush, fatigue and diarrhoea and an increase in the number of white blood cells meaning a boost to their immune system.

Fall Is the Time to Plant California Natives

By Anonymous

Los Angeles, CA September 27, 2004 -- Fall is the ideal time to plant California native plants. Unlike other areas of the United States when spring is the time for planting, the fall is the best time to plant natives here in California and the Southwest.

The Theodore Payne Nursery, which offers more than 400 species of native plants and 200 species of native plant seeds year round, will celebrate the beauty and practicality of California native plants at its annual fall festival and sale on October 15, 16, and 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 10459 Tuxford Street in Sun Valley. For more information about the event, call (818) 768-1802 or visit the nursery's website to see the full schedule.

“Our native plants are a source of tremendous pride for Californians,” said John Wickham, chair of the board of the Theodore Payne Foundation. “They are water-wise, which means either you're saving money in your pocket book or you are saving water for the greater good. They support healthy air and oceans because they don't need fertilizers or pesticides. They are great for drawing birds to your garden.”
The three days of events, including the sale of plants, seeds and books, will show how easy it is to plant and care for a California native garden. The general public will receive a 10% discount on all plant purchases and members of the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants will receive a 15% discount. The festival includes:

*    “Feral Flowers” photography exhibit of native wild flowers landscapes by Richard Dickey
*    Book signing and talk about the newly published “Theodore Payne: In His Own Words” with publisher Elizabeth Pomeroy
*    Classes and demonstrations about bonsai with natives, propagation, pruning and sketching
*    Exhibits on bees and herpetology, and creating backyard habitats

The Theodore Payne Nursery in Sun Valley grows and sells approximately 400 species of native plants and 200 species of native plant seeds to the general public. Proceeds from the nursery benefit the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants, Inc., which for forty five years has dedicated itself to preserving and restoring California’s native landscape. In addition to the nursery, the foundation conducts classes, collects seeds of plants and wild flowers, and hosts an annual garden tour. The foundation and nursery honor the legacy of honors the legacy of Theodore Payne, who opened his first nursery in 1903 in Los Angeles.
